Recent Match Reports

16th May: Blarney Utd A 2 Rockmount 1, O’Shea Park.

Our 96 second team finished the season off on a high with a good home win against a well organized Rockmount team. Anthony Cahill opened the scoring 5 mins in from a well taken Charrington corner & held this lead well into the 2nd half with the back four of John, Scott, Shaun & Gavin doing a fine job of keeping the away team at bay. 15mins into the 2nd half Rockmount made it 1-1 from a free kick at the edge of the box to beat an unlucky Adam Ahern at the post To their credit, the lads they kept going & when Jack Charrington in midfield latched onto a fast clearance from the Rockmount keeper he drove on past the defence to settle the game with a great finish from just inside the box. Some fine performances for Blarney on the day came from Scott Shine, Dean Sheehan, Stephen Barrett & Shaun O’Brien

1/Apr: U13 Div 6:Rathcoole Rvrs 1 Blarney U13Bs 2, Rathcoole, Ger Lynch

In the 2nd meeting of these two teams in ten days we thought we were in for another 10 goal thriller when the home side opened the scoring after 3 mins but the Blarney defence settled into the game & were determined not to concede again in this game. This gave the team the confidence to get forward so when the equalizer finally came 10mins into the 2nd half after a fine strike from Stephen, Blarney felt this was going to be their day. After seeing 2 or 3 of his earlier efforts go just wide of the post Jack got the winner with 5 mins to go with super strike from the edge of the box. The best couple of moments of the game though were yet to come with John 1st clearing the ball off the line & then keeper Adam making a class save when the Rathcoole's striker shot rattled the crossbar then the ball fell again to the striker it had goal wrote all over it but Adam stretched to save to insure all 3 points went to Blarney. 21/Mar: U13 Div 6: Blarney U13Bs 4, Rathcoole Rovers 6

A 10 - goal haul in O'Shea Park on a bright, sunny, spring, Sunday would surely be considered to be excellent entertainment. Rathcoole though spoiled the party coming out on the better side of the score line.  A brave performance from the lads, nut missing one or two regular players and defending being a bit naive, Blarney twice surrendering the lead and will have to learn from games like this... when you have a lead you will need to see out the game and not give away goals. The four who scored were Jack C, Stephen B, Scott S, Cillian G. Best on the day was Cillian O'B. Click here for more details

17/Mar: U13 Div 6: Leeside Knockraha 2, Blarney U13Bs 1

There was no last minute equalizer in the return leg of the game drawn a week earlier. This time Leeside - Knockraha got to take the full 3 points and on the balance of play, just about deserved it. Our lads gave their all with some fine performances from John O'D, Shaun O'B and goal scorer Matthew F.

7/Mar: U13 Div 6: Blarney Utd A 2, Leeside Knockraha 2

Our u13s got a well - deserved point on Sun at home to Leeside Knockraha who had a 100% record going into this game. Jack Charrington opened the scoring after 10 mins chasing the ball down & taking it from the keeper when it looked like he had it covered. To be fair Leeside had most of the play for the remainder of the half getting the equalizer 5 mins before the break. After the break Blarney then had most of the play having 3 or 4 chances to take the lead back but with 2 mins left in normal time Leeside got what looked to be the winner, But the lads never gave up & deep into injury time got a deserved equalizer when Jack’s well taken corner was meet by a fine header into the top of the net by Anthony Cahill. Best on the day were Gavin Kilgour, Dean Sheehan & Captain Matthew Forrest.

20/Feb: U13 LC: Blarney U13Bs 0, Greenwood 5

Our lads were always on the back foot for this game but for most of the day did themselves proud against a team 5 divisions above them in the leagues, defending very well & unlucky not to score a couple of times. Best on the day were stand - in keeper Adam Ahern who made some fine saves, John O'Donavan & Darragh Kelly.

U13s National Cup: Riverstown 4, Blarney U13Bs 0, Knockraha

This u13 side again showed lots of promise in this game against this team who are 3 divisions above them in the league, But like most games so far this season Blarney gave the home team a two goal early start before they began to show what they could do themselves, and very nearly got back in the game on 25min when Scott was found on the wing by Gavin's free kick from inside his own half but having beat two defenders Scott's shot came off the side of his boot to go just wide. Shaun having had to move into the centre of defence for the injured Dean Sheehan in the 2nd half steadied the flow of the Riverstown attack which allowed Blarney more time on the ball bringing our attack more into the game, on the 40min Jack brought the save of the week from last years Cork u12 keeper when his goal bound shot was wonderfully saved low and right by the keeper. But as always in these games when you are pressing to get back in the game you leave holes and Riverstown were able to pick off two more by the end of the game. Blarney's best of the day Gavin Kilgour.
