FAI SUMMER SOCCER SCHOOL IN BLARNEY

JULY 14-18

For the 5th consecutive year, Blarney United will host an FAI Summer Soccer School in O'Shea Park. Cost is €99 per child. One change this year is that there will be no "walk -ons" permitted. So my advise is to book early since the club will be unable to add extra children once the camp is full. The only method for booking is via the FAI website www.fai.ie or via the call centre on 1890-653653.

Recent Match Reports

Sat, Mar 8th - U12 Divn 4: St Mary's 1, Blarney U12s 2, St Mary's Park, 1:15pm. Damien Carthy.

Blarney were really up against it on Saturday away to St Mary's. Mary's had been Blarney's only hiccup of the season when St Mary's had been deserved winners in O'Shea Park earlier in the season. Blarney were also hit by 4 crucial late withdrawals so 11 man-of-the-match performances were required if Blarney was to secure the much - needed points. Blarney started the brighter, but with just 5 minutes gone, 2 very good chances were squandered by Blarney. Would Blarney's dreams be blown away in the wind that howled around Kilcully? It seemed so when some  poor defending from Blarney and some good individual play by St Mary's Jason led to St Mary's first effort on goal was converted into a 1-0 lead. Blarney were stunned and in the difficult conditions, could not get their passing game going. They showed true grit however and battled hard. After one of St Mary's forays, Keith retrieved  the ball in his own half and played a long ball up to Lorcan. Playing as a lone striker, Lorcan took the ball down, held it up and waited for the on rushing David C to advance. David arrived on queue and received a beautifully weighted pass from Lorcan. David picked his spot and equalised before the break. The second half was dominated by Blarney possession but it was not until the 55th minute that Blarney deservedly took the lead. Again, Keith played a super ball through to Lorcan. Lorcan took on and beat the St Mary's defenders and then struck the ball toward the St Mary's goal. The goalie parried the ball and Lorcan, who had continued his run slotted home the rebound. Blarney deserved the win and dedicated their victory to Sean & Conor.

Sun, Feb 24th - U12 Local Cup: Blarney U12s 9, Greenwood 0, Damien, O'Shea Park. 1:00pm

Blarney’s 95s staked their claim to the local cup with their first step with a convincing win over Greenwood. MOM: Paul O'C whose hard work in the centre of the park was rewarded with his first goal of the season... a massive stroke with his left foot..  See photo album for pics.

Sun, Feb 17th - Challenge Match: Cork 96s 0, Blarney U12s 2, Mayfield. 4:30. Z. Kristic

Blarney’s 95s travelled to Mayfield on Sunday last to play a Cork 96 emerging talent squad. The game had been arranged in order to prepare for what will hopefully be a good, though very difficult run in the local cup. The game started with both teams poised for a tight draw until Lorcan put the visitors ahead with a great strike. Cork then went on a spell of dominance but Blarney held firm and defended exceptionally well. The second half started with both teams equally matched. Chances fell to both sides but Blarney’s back four snuffed most of the danger out and Cian dealt well with any breaches. Blarney forced the pace, gained the upper hand in possession and began a spell of adventurous attack. With 10 minutes to go, Blarney gained possession in their own half, moved the ball through the midfield, spread it wide to Eric on the wing who crafted a sublime cross into the box for Lorcan to strike on the run, slotting down to the keeper’s left. On a day of great top - class team work Colm H and David O'R performed very well but Lorcan G's discipline, hard work and goal scoring would have to  earn him the MOM award. A special thanks also to Keith and Chris who both battled through injury and also to Sean O'D for helping out up front on the day. Final score: Blarney 2, Cork 0 & smiles all round.

Sun, Jan 27th - U12 D4: Strand Utd 1, Blarney U12s 3, Ballyanly. 12:15

Blarney went to Ballyanly with only one thing in mind... three points. The game started with both teams matched equally until David O played a sublime pass through to Lorcan and who skilfully placed the ball into the bottom corner. The half ended with both teams getting equal chances. The second half started and early on Lorcan blocked the Strand keepers clearance and the ball hit the back of the net. Lorcan then had a chance for a hat trick with a penalty but it was saved. With ten minutes to go Strand scored which put them back in the game. Conor  then went on a blistering run down the left hand side a laid a beautiful ball off for Eoin who rocketed the ball into the top corner. Final score Strand 1,  Blarney 3. MOM: David D for his outstanding defensive work and "never say die" attitude.

Sat, Dec 1st - U12 D4: Blarney U12s 3, Midleton 2, All Weather Pitch. 1:15pm Daniel Long.

On Saturday the 1st of December, the U12s were playing the league leaders Midleton. The game started well and Blarney got a free kick on the edge of the box. Lorcan smashed the ball into the bottom corner. From the restart, Blarney won back the ball spread it out to the  wing. The ball was drilled across the front of goal and Conor was left with an easy tap in. In the 7th minute, Blarney scored a third and were cruising. For a while, both teams were even but Midleton got two goals which put them right back in the game. In the second half, both sides failed to convert some very good chances and the score line remained unchanged. MOM: Eric T for playing out of position and getting on the score sheet.

Sun, Oct 21st - Challenge Match: Blarney U12s 4, Nufarm 6. O'Shea Park, All Weather

On Sunday, Oct 21st, the U152s had a friendly match against Nufarm in O'Shea Park. This match saw Paul O'C return from injury. An early goal from David C saw Blarney go 1 up. Good play from both sides made the first half exciting and played at a very high tempo. At half time, the game was still there for the win for both teams. An early goal from the Nufarm captain saw the sides draw level again. Blarney then went on the attack for a ten minute period during which they scored three goals. With ten minutes to go, Blarney were cruising but Nufarm showed their metal by scoring an impressive five goals to see them win the game.

Sun, Oct 14th - Challenge: Blarney U12s 4, Ballincollig 3. O'Shea Park, Grass Pitch.

On Sunday, Oct 14th, the under 12s played Ballincollig on a beautiful morning in O'Shea Park. The game started with Blarney and Ballincollig missing a lot of chances to score, but because of exceptional goal keeping from both keepers, the first half ended scoreless. After David C missed a chance Eoin W was on hand to slot away the rebound. The Conor put Blarney 2 goals to the good. Next Ballincollig scored their first goal of the game but this was followed quickly by Conor giving us another goal. At this stage, Ballincollig landed one in our net, but David D settled things with a well placed penalty. Ballincollig scored a late goal but Blarney held out for the win, keeping their 100% record in place.

Sat, Oct 6th - U12 Divn 4: Blarney U12s 4, Strand 1, O'Shea Park, Grass. 10:30. Ger Lynch
The U.12’s went to O’Shea Park hoping for revenge on local rivals Strand. In the previous season Strand had beaten Blarney 4-1 in the race for promotion. This was on everyone's minds on the day. Eoin was back for the game but Paul and Alan were unable to play because of injury. Nevertheless, as good team mates they came along to support their team. Blarney started well with early chances. Then Cremin scored the first goal after a mistake by the Strand keeper. This was followed by chance after chance for both teams. The end of the first half a corner from the Strand keep left Conor Nagle with an easy finish. At half time the score was Blarney 2 Strand 0, we had a win in sight. Strand came out all guns blazing for the start of the second and an early goal by Strand put them back in the game. For a while Blarney backs were against the wall. Then blarney went on to counter attack. A through ball from Eoin played into Conor who struck the ball into the bottom left hand corner. A few minutes from time David Dunlea had a penalty claim which wasn’t given. Towards the end Keith Bradford scored a great header from a corner after Lorcan delivered another superb cross. Final score Blarney 4 Strand 1. Though only two games played, Blarney are sitting pretty on top of the table with maximum points. MOM: Conor

Sat, Sept 22nd - U12 National Cup: Blarney U12s 3, Fermoy 4. 10:30 O'Shea Park. F. Bevan
On Saturday the 22nd September an eager Blarney team went to O’Shea Park to play Fermoy with a new look. A tactical switch on the day saw Dunny, usually right back, go up front and Lorcan, usually forward, go centre back. After very good play by Blarney for most of the first half, a corner cleared by Blarney went to a Fermoy player who guided the ball into the net. Blarney countered when Dunny and Cremin linked up beautifully for a superb volley by Cremin. At the end of the first half Dunny added to the score with a superb goal towards the end of the first half. After half time Fermoy scored two goals to put them back in front. In the last minute Cremin scored an equaliser. Extra time started tensely with a good goal from Fermoy. Blarney kept pushing for a goal and came close towards the end, but alas it was not to be. Final score: Fermoy 4, Blarney 3. MOM: Keith.

Sat, Sept 8th - U12 Divn 4: Leeds 1, Blarney U12s 5, Knockraha. Daniel Long. 11:45
The Under 12s had a strong win away against Leeds in their opening league game. Three goals in the first half set Blarney up for a good win and despite a late first half Leeds goal Blarney still looked strong. Despite having a player sent off, Blarney still pushed and deservedly added a fourth and then a fifth. Goals from Keith, Dunny, David C , Conor and Alan showed depth in the squad which was ably marshalled by Scott in his familiar centre half position. A good strong performance from the squad marred only by the harsh sending off. MOM: Cremin
