1106-Seniors Finish the Season winning the O'Connell Cup

Blarney's Seniors finished their last game of the season by raising the O'Connell Cup in Camden on Saturday. Having won the Beamish Senior Cup on Wed night in Turner's Cross after a penalty shoot out with Douglas Hall most people were hoping that Blarney could complete their task in regular time but alas a 1-1 score at full time (after a host of opportunities to seal it) led inexorably towards Blarney's 3rd penalty shootout in as many finals this season. Inevitable I suppose!! A brilliant performance from Blarney net minder Eamonn had him diving the right way for each penalty but Blarney had gone behind in the first peno when Rockmount's stand in keeper saved. At 5-4, Blarney had to save the last penalty to prevent a Rockmount victory. Eamonn obliged and saved the next to boot, putting all the pressure on Aidan Leahy to score. Unflappable Aidan slotted his and Blarney hoisted their second cup of the week with a 6-5 penalty win. Click here for pics.
