1106-2010/11 Schoolboy Awards

Blarney had its strongest ever schoolboy season in 2010/11. The underage section of the club topped 400 members and we had 11 schoolboy teams competing. To put that in perspective, just 7 years ago we only had 2 schoolboy teams! This is tremendous growth which is only possible as a result of the players & families, coaches & mentors, schoolboy & club committees and last but not least, our sponsors. Each of these elements are essential components of a plan for continued growth and success for years to come.

On Saturday we celebrated the schoolboy section of the club via the annual schoolboy awards. Major honours went to Kieran Murray (94s) who won the Schoolboy of the year award and to Cian Woods (95s) who won the Goalkeeper of the Year award. We also honoured 5 of our players who represented our club on Cork squads (Ian, Cathal, Conor, Eric & Sean). As well as the club awards we celebrated our team achievements...

U16D1 - Runners up

U15D2 - Promoted

U14D1 - League winners

U13Prem - Just staying Premier is a feat on its own but to add their cup runs showed excellent form

U12D1 - Cork Cup winners

U12D6 - League winners

U11D2 - League winners

That's a pretty phenomenal set of results for Blarney Schoolboys

As well as the players & teams, special mention was also made of...

- Bernard O'Donovan who stepped down as U16D4 manager after taking his lads all the way from U9. Thanks Bernard.

- Kate Durrant who has helped enormously with the 94Bs

- Garry O'Brien who has helped out with the 96B team since they were U9. Your help and skills are much appreciated.

- Tom Murray stepped down from his role as Schoolboy Chairman. Tom's dedication and attention to detail has been a critical part of the growth and success of Blarney's schoolboy section.

- We've still do decide what is happening to the 96Bs so we will not say farewell to Garry & Ger Sheehan just yet. Don't worry there's still a job for ye.

As Bernard recounted on the night, "You'd want to look after yourself, cos in this club, retiring from one job usually means that you end up with a newer, bigger job". We all look forward to welcoming the "retirees" into their new positions in the near future!

Congratulations to Kieran Murray who won the 2010/11 Schoolboy of the year award. Kieran has been an outstanding player throughout his schoolboy career. He has won the CSL Schoolboy of the Year award, he has represented Cork on numerous occasions, he has been involved with the Emerging Talent program for a number of years and has, this year, broken into BUFC's Senior team.

Congratulations also to Cian Woods. Cian's contributions have lead to his team being promoted for 4 out of the last 5 season. With his monstrous kick outs and safe hands, he has helped to create a very solid defence, Easy to train and a huge contributor to his team mates we look forward to seeing him progress for years to come.
