Feb 2009 - Blarney U14As v Ringmahon

Sun, Feb 22nd: Last 16 of U14 National Cup. 2pm, O'Shea Park

Cork's U14 National Cup representation took at bashing this weekend  when 3 of the 4 Cork teams were ousted from the last 16 of the U14 National Cup. St Francis from Dublin accounted for Leeds on Saturday, whilst local rivals Ringmahon and Blarney were pitted against each other in O'Shea Park on Sunday. Ringmahon went ahead after 20 minutes with a fine move. The ball was picked up on the right wing and a fine cross - field pass put Ringmahon's #9 into open space approaching Blarney's 18 yard box. He took the ball down nicely and then hammered it passed the Blarney keeper into the top right hand corner. Blarney responded after 5 minutes with a set piece corner, delivered by Jason and despatched by the flying Colin. A few minutes later though the game screeched to a halt with a dangerous injury to Blarney's Sean Lynch who ended up in an ambulance. The game was delayed by 3/4 hour and it was Ringmahon who gained the momentum after the restart. A series of Ringmahon corners late in the game had Blarney under pressure. Blarney failed to clear one of the corners and a Ringmahon midfielder pounced to put the ball passed the Blarney keeper. Final score - Blarney 1, Ringmahon 2. Ringmahon go on to meet Home Farm in the quarter finals.
