Feb 2009 - Blarney SenAs v Carrigaline Utd

Sat 7 Feb: Blarney SenAs 2, Carrigaline Utd 1, O'Shea Park. 7pm (Damian O'Mahony, Finbar Murphy, Damien Klier)

A 10 - man Blarney's Senior squad had to come from behind to win the 4th round Intermediate Cup tie with Carrigaline. This was set up to be an intriguing encounter with several of the Carrigaline squad came from their very successful youth team. Their youth and pace was pitted against Blarney's experience in the encounter under lights on a bitterly cold Saturday night.

Carrigaline went 1 up mid way through the first half when an excellent, length of the field move was finished with a fabulous volley past Blarney's keeper into the top left corner. Blarney had much of the possession in the first half but the Carrigaline keeper was hardly troubled. Soon after, Blarney's Mark Clifford was booked for simulation in the Carrigaline box.

The second half continued where the first half had finished, with Blarney having much of the possession but were frustrated by excellent Carrigaline counter attacking. Clifford was sent for an early shower when he was booked a second time for a tackle. This seemed to spark Blarney into life and deserved their Ray O'Leary equaliser on 70 minutes. Carrigaline looked rattled and seemed to lose their composure on the ball. In the last few minutes, Blarney got a free 30 yards out on Carrigaline's right side. In a training ground move, John Hogan delivered a neat ball into the Carrigaline 6 yard box which Thomas Fitzgibbon converted.  Final score - Blarney 2, Carrigaline 1.
