FAI SUMMER SOCCER SCHOOL IN BLARNEY

JULY 14-18

For the 5th consecutive year, Blarney United will host an FAI Summer Soccer School in O'Shea Park. Cost is €99 per child. One change this year is that there will be no "walk -ons" permitted. So my advise is to book early since the club will be unable to add extra children once the camp is full. The only method for booking is via the FAI website www.fai.ie or via the call centre on 1890-653653.

Feb 2008 - 94Bs v Wilton

16/Feb: U11 Local Cup: Blarney U13Bs 1, Wilton 3, O'Shea Park

Pride was at stake in this U13 cup tie between two teams struggling with their league form. Wilton got the better of Blarney when they met last September, winning 4-2 away from home. Blarney made the brighter opening to this fixture, taking the lion's share of the early opportunities. The best of these fell to Declan B. His snapshot was turned round the post thanks to rapid reactions from Oisin in the Wilton goal. The speed of the ball on Blarney's impressive all - weather surface had an impact on the game. Both teams tried to use the surface to their advantage by keeping the ball on the ground and moving it quickly. Eoin W of Blarney and Greg O'M of Wilton controlled the play from their central midfield positions. Eoin W struck the first blow by playing Declan B through with a well weighted pass. Declan kept his composure and slotted the ball home. The old saying about a side being most vulnerable after scoring held true. Wilton scored with a blitz attack straight from the tip - off. Andres O'R broke free and slid the ball into the bottom corner. The sides tussled for superiority as half - time approached. Colm O'Regan dealt a strong blow for Wilton. His free kick from 20 yards swung out, around the wall and into the back of the net via a deflection in the six yard box. Blarney came right back. Oisin was forced to tip the ball onto his own bar after an accurate lob attempt by David D. Wilton moved up a gear in the second half and Blarney struggled to follow. Greg O'M started to inspire his side from the heart of midfield and pulled off a Zidane turn to entertain the crowds. Kevin S and O'Mahony had good chances in quick succession to scorebut neither could convert. Colm O'R put the result beyond doubt after 45 minutes. He showed good control to take down a hopeful ball over the top. He cued up the shot and slotted the ball into the bottom corner. The goal knocked Blarney onto the back foot and they never really recovered. So Wilton will march on to the next round of the cup. The two sides will meet one more time at the Lee Road in what could be a crucial league fixture. Based on article in Evening Echo on Mon, Feb 18th, 2008.
