FAI SUMMER SOCCER SCHOOL IN BLARNEY

JULY 14-18

For the 5th consecutive year, Blarney United will host an FAI Summer Soccer School in O'Shea Park. Cost is €99 per child. One change this year is that there will be no "walk -ons" permitted. So my advise is to book early since the club will be unable to add extra children once the camp is full. The only method for booking is via the FAI website www.fai.ie or via the call centre on 1890-653653.

Thu, Jul 5th:

On Thursday night, wins for the Hackers, Basle and Ballincollig saw them through the quarter finals of the Plate competition.

Fri, Jul 6th:

Friday night saw the start of the cup quarter finals. John Forrest's much - fancied Gallacticos were too strong for the Muskerry Arms lads. as were Murphy's rock who saw off Aunties. St Mary's looked too strong for The Castle Hotel lads and Connie's boys went to 3 goals down at half time. However a remarkable come back led by Ray O'Leary saw score line turn. Johnnie's got a goal back soon into the second half but it looked like a false dawn when St Mary's added a fourth goal and looked unstoppable. St Mary's resorted to sitting back and fouling and paid the price. Soon, thanks largely to O'Leary, the score line was reduced to a 1 goal deficit. The continuous delaying and fouling tactics led to a dismissal with 7 minutes to go and the result was then inevitable. The game finished 6-4 in favour of Connie's men. who advance to a semi final date with the earlier winners, the Gallacticos. The finial game of the evening pitched the Waterboys against the Anglers. These two strong teams matched each other throughout the game with a final 3-3 score line. In the peno shootout, it was the Anglers who advanced through to a semi final date with Murphy's Rock. The tournament will continue on Monday with the four Plate quarter finals taking place. The first match will start at 6:30.

Mon, 9th:

The final week saw the continuation of the quarter finals. This time we were looking to determine the plate semi finalists. In the first game, the much fancied Nevada Smith's had a narrow 4-3 victory over Malone's, but disappointingly, Denis Caughlan's had to give a walkover to Cronin Construction. The other two quarter finals were thriller, both finishing 2-2 and having to go to shoot outs. In the first shoot out, Centra Tower were nabbed by the Hackers whilst Ballincollig beat FC Basle.

Tue, 10th:

On Tuesday evening we got down to the business end of the tournament with the semi finals for the cup. Johnny Forrest's Gallacticos were pipped by Connie Riordan's Castle Hotel in a penalty shoot out after the match had ended 0-0. On the other side of the semi finals, the Anglers beat Murphy's Rock 3-2. This sets up a cup final for The Castle Hotel and The Anglers which kicks off on Fri evening at 8pm. The competition continues on Wed with the plate semi finals when Nevada Smith face Cronin Construction and The Hackers take on Ballincollig.

Wed, 11th:

The Plate semi finals turned out to be one sided affairs. Ballincollig and Nevada Smiths booked their finals spots with comprehensive victories over the Hackers and Cronin Construction respectively. Unfortunately, due to the passing of Noreen Mullins, the finals, originally scheduled for Friday night, will be deferred. Details will follow when they are available.

Thu, July 12:

Due to the untimely death of Noreen Mullins, a good friend of the club, the Square League finals have been deferred to Fri, July 20th. Our sincerest sympathies go out  to Noreen's family and friends.
