FAI SUMMER SOCCER SCHOOL IN BLARNEY

JULY 14-18

For the 5th consecutive year, Blarney United will host an FAI Summer Soccer School in O'Shea Park. Cost is €99 per child. One change this year is that there will be no "walk -ons" permitted. So my advise is to book early since the club will be unable to add extra children once the camp is full. The only method for booking is via the FAI website www.fai.ie or via the call centre on 1890-653653.

Sun, Oct 15th 2006:

Derek Healy's brace of goals helped Blarney Junior team  to a 3-2 victory over CIT on Sunday afternoon in O'Shea Park. Blarney were the more skilful team on the day but CIT battled hard throughout and made Blarney's victory less than certain right up to the final whistle. Blarney went ahead after just 5 minutes when the CIT defender was adjudged to have handled the ball in his own area. John O'Shea despatched the resulting penalty sending the CIT keeper, Edward O'Callaghan the wrong way. CIT pulled level late in the first half leaving a nervous side line at half time. When John O'Shea missed a second penalty on 60 minutes, it seemed that Blarney were not going to win through. However  when Greg Constant passed the ball out wide to Bart Lane, Bart whipped in a perfect cross allowing Derek Healy to head the ball passed the beaten defence. Blarney were looking comfortable until another goal from CIT brought the scores level to 2-2. The momentum was with CIT, but Sean O'Grady got into a dangerous position in the CIT box, he dug out the ball and passed it on to the alert Healy who again despatched the ball passed the out - stretched O'Callaghan to bring the score to 3-2. At full time, the Blarney dressing room believed that Healy should have put the game beyond doubt when, on the 90th minute, Constant unselfishly (his own words) set Healy up for his hat - trick, but Healy was not able to stretch enough to poke the ball into the CIT net.
