FAI SUMMER SOCCER SCHOOL IN BLARNEY

JULY 14-18

For the 5th consecutive year, Blarney United will host an FAI Summer Soccer School in O'Shea Park. Cost is €99 per child. One change this year is that there will be no "walk -ons" permitted. So my advise is to book early since the club will be unable to add extra children once the camp is full. The only method for booking is via the FAI website www.fai.ie or via the call centre on 1890-653653.

Sun, April 22nd: FAI Senior Cup, 1st Round. College Corinthians 2, Blarney SenAs 2. KO 3:00.

Just a week after their draw in the FAI Intermediate cup, Blarney again took to the field; this time in the first round of the FAI Senior Cup. This was an historic day for Blarney who had booked their berth in the Senior Cup by virtue of their semi finalist position in the Intermediate Cup. Despite the strength of Pat Maher's Corinthians men, it was Blarney who made all the early running. Three games in six days had done little to dampen Blarney's attack. Early chances fell to Cormac Hayes, Dermot Crowley and Jeremy O'Sullivan, but in truth, neither Paul Collins in the Blarney goal nor Eamonn Breen in the Corinthian's goal were troubled much. It took Corinthians 25 minutes to really get going and they were rewarded with a strong 15 minutes during which they peppered the Blarney goal. Towards the end of the first half however Blarney's attack proved lethal when Blarney forced a corner on 42 minutes. Dave Moynihan floated the ball in from the left and Jeremy O'Sullivan rose at the near post to head past the keeper into the top right corner of the net. Three minutes later, Dermot Crowley came close again when he was clear through onto the Corinthians keeper but hesitated giving Breen enough time to make a fine left handed save. After the break, Corinthians looked bewildered when, on 55 minutes, Daniel Corkery received the ball in Corinthian's  18 yard box, jinked right, turned left, past the Corinthians defender and slotted the ball past the outstretched Breen. A string of injuries forced Blarney to make several changes in the last 20 minutes, but in truth, with 10 minutes to go, Blarney looked comfortable. That was until, on the 84 minute mark, Blarney failed to clear their lines. The ball fell to Dave Ahern, who let loose with his left foot and smacked the ball into the the top left corner from 12 yards out. Blarney still looked comfortable but with three minutes to go, another Corinthians attack led to a fabulous save by Paul Collins. The rebound fell to Corinthian's substitute Ron Stanton who volleyed the ball home with a magnificent right foot. Final score: College Corinthians 2, Blarney United 2. Replay in two weeks time.
