FAI SUMMER SOCCER SCHOOL IN BLARNEY

JULY 14-18

For the 5th consecutive year, Blarney United will host an FAI Summer Soccer School in O'Shea Park. Cost is €99 per child. One change this year is that there will be no "walk -ons" permitted. So my advise is to book early since the club will be unable to add extra children once the camp is full. The only method for booking is via the FAI website www.fai.ie or via the call centre on 1890-653653.

Sun, March 19th, 2006: Blarney did themselves proud on Sunday, March 19th in their quarter final clash with current cup holders, Wayside Celtic. A well worked move saw Blarney take the lead in the first half when Rory Goggin swung the ball in from a Blarney corner only for the ball to met by the ever alert, Dave Moynihan on the near post. His neat back flick caught the Wayside defence off - guard and it was enough to beat the Wayside keeper and Captain, Robbie O'Dowd. Blarney had squandered two earlier chances and they deserved to their lead going into the break. In the second half, Wayside found their feet but again Blarney worked their way to the top with several promising moves up he left hand wing. ON the 60th minute Ray O'Leary found himself in space on the left side and ran at the defence. Despite the on - rushing keeper he calmly stroked the ball past O'Dowd and secured the 2-0 lead. The final 15 minutes of the game was scrappy, with Wayside launching several raids on the Blarney 18 yard box but, un truth, the current cup holders never seriously threatened the Blarney goal. Blarney deserved their 2-0 victory and await the the outcome of the other results in order to see who they have to face in the semi finals.
