Senior Bs draw 2-2 with Ballinhassig

Sun, Oct 9th 2005: These two sides had met in Blarney's first league match of the season back in August. In that game, Ballinhassig had been clear winners with an emphatic 5-0 win. Ian and crew were determined that history would not repeat itself. Blarney started far the better both in open play and in set pieces. It was from a set piece that Blarney took the lead. In the 15th minute, Ballinhassig gave away a free kick just outside their 18 yard box. John Forrest rolled the ball for Greg Constant who curled the ball around the wall down to the keeper's left. Seven minutes later, Bart Lane increased the lead making it 2-0 to the home side. Just before half time, Ballinhassig pulled a goal back when a long, diagonal ball was headed back into the 6 yard box presenting the advancing Ballinhassig player with an easy goal making it 2-1 at half time. In the second half, Ballinhassig drew level after the Blarney backs failed to clear a ball. Things got worse when Blarney was reduced to ten men after Gavin Mackey received a straight red card. Blarney held firm however and could have won the game but for three fine saves by the Ballinhassig keeper. Final Score: Blarney 2, Ballinhassig 2.
