April 2011- Blarney win the U14D1 Title

Blarney's 96As picked up the U14 Div 1 title with a game to spare on Sunday in Crosshaven. Their rivals for the title, Mayfield had been pipped at the post earlier in the day by Bandon but despite the title being in the bag, Paul & Brian's crew stuck to the task. The final score was 6-1 to Blarney with an amazing 4 goals to Shaun and 1 each to Kenneth and Peter. Great credit must go to players, parents, managers and coaches of this squad who have worked through the disappointment of being relegated last season to winning the title. What a way to bounce back! Well done to all. Click here for pics

If you would like to make some comments about the camp, whether or not you enjoyed it, how we could improve the program, etc then drop us a line. We hope to run a similar camp in August and your comments will be included in the planning process.

We had another enjoyable day on Sunday with the lads from Wolstone Rovers. This time the Blarney 97s, 96s and 95s were merged with the Wolstone lads forming 8 teams. Parents, players and coaches all had a blast. Even the volunteer refs had a laugh. Maybe there's something in this "friendly" business after all.

Wolstone and one of the Blarney squads were knocked out in the semis leaving Corinthians and the other Blarney team to battle out the final. Blarney eventually won out in a sudden death penalty shoot out.

May 27th and 28th : Cork International Tournament.

On Saturday, while all the hoopla was going on in O'Shea Park. Blarney had 4 other teams playing in the Cork International Tournament in Bishopstown. The tournament, which is the Cork equivalent of the Manchester Cup was a two day event coordinated by Team Tours Direct, in association with the Cork Schoolboys League. Last year, Blarney U8s were the champions of the U8 age group. This year the same lads came back to compete for the U9 title and joined by Blarney 95s, 94s and 92s.

Sat, May 7th: FAI Senior Cup, 2nd Round. Blarney SenAs 1, Derry City 3. O'Shea Park. KO 18:00.
On Saturday, Blarney's Senior squad bowed out of the FAI Carlsberg Cup losing 3-1 to Eircom League contenders, Derry City. This was an important day for the club, the village and indeed all non - league clubs around the country. Despite the disappointing result, the lads and the club did themselves proud. A large crowd watched as the senior squad went two goals down in the first six minutes. This was the impetus for the lads to shed their nerves and it was a Stephen Jennings penalty, just before half time, that brought the score line back to 2-1. Derry's back four were strong and resisted Blarney's attack. A late penalty to Derry city brought the final score to 3-1 which was how it finished. This was a super achievement for the lads who were out the following day to cheer home the U9s and U11s who each won their age groups in the Cork International Tournament. A great weekend for the club and the village.

May 2006 - Blarney SenAs lose out to Avondale in the final of the FAI Intermediate Cup in Turners Cross

May 2006 - Blarney U8 Boomers draw 2-2 with Buttevant in Small Sided Games.

Despite taking the lead twice in the first half, Blarney could not hang onto the lead, surrendering goals just after taking the lead each time. Blarney's first goal came on the 8 minute from a super drive from Wayne Shine finding the top corner of the net. Buttevant, to their credit, came back with a strike in the 10 minute. Then Daniel Morrissey capped a good game with a great driving run and a well finished goal. Again Buttevant came back to level things up within a minute. All in all the draw was the best result as no team deserved to lose the game. Blarney had fine performances from there goal Keeper Jamie O'Connor and right back Eoin Underwood.

May 2006 - Blarney beat Corinthians in extra time in the FAI Cup, 1st round replay.

It took four hours of football to get a clear result in this, the first round FAI Cup fixture, between Blarney's SenAs and College Corinthians. The original fixture had been disappointing for Blarney given that they were 2-0 up with 10 minutes to play. But credit to Corinthians who had fought back with two late goals. That brought us back to O'Shea Park last Sunday morning for the replay. A goal on the 25 minute mark gave Corinthians the lead. But with 5 minutes to go in the first half, Blarney equalised with a predatory header from Danny Corkery. Blarney had the better of the second half but could not put the game away and so we were treated to extra time where in the 4th minute, Jeremy O'Sullivan  picked up an inch - perfect McCann pass and crashed the ball into the Corinthians net. The game finished 2-1.

Apr 2006 - Blarney SenAs thru to final of the FAI Intermediate Cup after beating Carrigaline 2-1 on Saturday last in O'Shea Park.

Blarney beat Carrigaline 2-1 in their FAI Intermediate Cup replay in a sun  - drenched O'Shea Park on Saturday afternoon. A huge crowd came out to see the SenAs semi final replay in O'Shea Park. With the pitch and grounds looking fabulous, Blarney took the lead in the first half with a goal from Stephen Jennings. In the second period, Dermot Crowley brought down the Carrigaline striker and a penalty ensued which was duly converted. But just 3 minutes later, Dermot redeemed himself with a great sideline throw into the Carrigaline area; Carrigaline failed to clear their lines and Daniel Corkery was in the right place to poke the ball home.

Apr 2006 - Blarney's Senior Team draw 2-2 with College Corinthians in the first round of the FAI Senior Cup: Blarney will be disappointed not to have beaten Corinthians in the first round of the FAI Senior cup. Corinthians came back from 2-0 down to draw the game. The replay will be on in 2 weeks time.

Apr 2006 - Blarney's U11 team went off to Manchester to take part in the Manchester Cup. During the weekend away the boys were runners up to St Paul's of Artane unfortunately losing out only to a golden goal. We were fortunate enough also to visit Old Trafford for the Sunderland match, to do a pile of shopping and even managed to fit in a trip to Alton Towers. A great weekend had by all!

Apr 2006 - Blarney SenAs travel to Ballea Park to meet Carrigaline in the Semi Finals of the FAI Intermediate Cup. Blarney's Senior team travelled the short distance  to Carrigaline on Easter Sunday to take on Carrigaline in the both team's first ever appearance in the semi finals of the intermediate cup. A nervous display by both sides, combined with a narrow and rock hard pitch led to a 0-0 conclusion. So, we'll do it all over again in Blarney in two weeks time.

Mar 2006 - Blarney SenAs win FAI Intermediate Cup Quarter Finals fixture with current cup holders, Wayside Celtic. Blarney's Senior team deservedly advanced to the semi final stages of the FAI Intermediate Cup after dominating the tie against current cup holders, Wayside Celtic. Blarney dominated all around the park and even squandered 2 first half chances only to go on and win 2-0 thanks to goals from Dave Moynihan and Ray O'Leary.
