This year's U7s (born in 00) recently took part in the SSG football festival. The focus of the SSG is on participation and fun. The lads certainly have enjoyed themselves and we are delighted with the progress they have made. Grateful thanks goes to the coaches / mentors who have  worked so well with the kids throughout the year.

27th July - U14s Girls National Cup

Blarney United club successfully staged the FAI Women's U14 National Cup Final on Sunday, July 27 when Wilton United succeeded in bringing the trophy to Cork. Wilton had never won this particular trophy before and they were thrilled with their 3-1 success over a very gallant Longford Town team who showed great character and resolution in fighting back after losing a goal in sensational style in the second minute of the match. Wilton's team captain Denise O'Sullivan was the star of the game and deservedly won the "Player of the Match" trophy. She headed the opening goal following a corner and also claimed the third when she turned in a cross from Lauren Murphy just two minutes before the final whistle. Lauren Murphy had scored the second herself, in the 25th minute, and Longford's attempt to recover was given a great impetus when their team captain, Sarah Shannon, scored in the 55th minute. Denise O'Sullivan was presented with the trophy by Tina Murphy of the CWSSL, Pauline O'Shaughnessy, Secretary of the Women's FAI. Niamh O'Farrell, of the FAI Women's football department, was also in attendance. The quality of the playing surface at Blarney and the standard of facilities in the dressing - rooms were the subject of much complimentary  comment by all of the visitors. They enjoyed a wonderful afternoon in beautiful weather conditions and Blarney United officials, and the Ladies' Committee who did a superb job in providing the half-time refreshments, could take credit for their part in the successful promotion. The positive response from all concerned means that Blarney United will host further important functions on behalf of the FAI in the coming years. Click here for more details.

July - FAI Summer Soccer Camp

The 5th FAI Summer Soccer School held in Blarney took place in July and this year was a massive success. We would like to express our sincere thanks to all of the children who attended. Their behaviour and good humour, during a long week, was brilliant and the respect shown to coaches, facilities and other players was a credit to them and their families. We were blessed with fine weather for the week and I think it fair to say that all of the children benefited from the football whilst the families benefited from their tiredness at the end of every day. Most just can't wait now for the start of next season. Click here for more details and pictures.
