FAI SUMMER SOCCER SCHOOL IN BLARNEY

JULY 14-18

For the 5th consecutive year, Blarney United will host an FAI Summer Soccer School in O'Shea Park. Cost is €99 per child. One change this year is that there will be no "walk -ons" permitted. So my advise is to book early since the club will be unable to add extra children once the camp is full. The only method for booking is via the FAI website www.fai.ie or via the call centre on 1890-653653.

The game was played on the all weather pitch and 2/25-minute periods. Blarney had a wind advantage in the first and took the lead when Connor F slid the ball through to Jamie H who blasted home from close range to make it 1-0. Blarney’s confidence was high following the goal and played the better football with Mayfield camped in there own half for most of the first half. Blarney were rewarded in the 15th minute for there pressure when Jamie H drove the ball low across the six yard box where the oncoming Bradley L blasted low to the right to make it 2-0. Blarney had not played Evergreen since the 01-10-05 in a great game that ended 3-3 but tonight Blarney were in great form and dominated from start to finish. Blarney scored there first when Jamie H struck from the 18-yard line. Sun, 27/Jan: Challenge Match: Blarney U10s 2, Lakewood 1, O'Shea Park, All Weather

Blarney U10A's took on a Lakewood U10 team that competes in the U11 Division 4 League. Blarney started very well and had a number of chances on Lakewood's goal but were not good enough with their finishing. Lakewood took the lead due to a lack of communication between Blarney centre backs and the Lakewood's player's finishing was excellent. Blarney settled again quickly and their passing and tackling was very good and it paid off with a goal by Bryan M to level matters. At half time it was one each. The half time talk did the lads well and they played football like it should be played, on the ground with plenty of movement and support. Matthew F and Peter B were very influential in the 2nd half and David and David T were rock solid in defence. Blarney had great chances from excellent corner kicks from Jamie H but again they could not find the back of the net. The sun shone on the day and as the match went on players were getting tired. Blarney kept passing and progressing towards goal and some fine play by Peter B led to Blarney's winner scored by Bryan M. Man of the match; Peter B. Good performances: David T, David B, Matthew F. Team: Gavin K, Jamie H, David T, David B, Alan R, John O'D, Aaron B, Mark C, Terry M, Matthew F, Bryan M, Peter B, Cian 'O, Ryan K, Padraig 'O

Sun, 18/Nov: Challenge Match: Killarney Celtic 2 V Blarney Utd V 5 K.O 12.30, Killarney

Blarney travelled to Killarney with 13 players on a wet and miserable morning and were lifted on arrival by the fantastic facilities at the grounds. Killarney had a big squad of 22 and with the game played on the main grass pitch it turned out to be a cracking game with plenty of chances from both sides. Blarney started out of the blocks quickest and had three chances within minutes but did not take advantage in front of goal. Then, against the run of play, Killarney broke to score with tap in after 10 minutes to make 1-0. Following the goal Blarney then played some of their best football of the season with great build up play from Jamie H in midfield and Peter B up front who held up the ball to great effect. Blarney were then rewarded in the 15 minute when Peter B received the ball outside the box and with a good run into the box scored low to the left corner to make it 1-1. Blarney were playing excellent football at this stage and with Braham and Twomey in defence Killarney had very few chances for the remainder of the first half. Blarney finished the first half in style with two excellent penalties kicks from David B to make it 4-1 at half time. In the second half Killarney came in to the game more and with a tiring Blarney side the home side scored within 10 minutes of the restart. Blarney then stepped up a gear and a good ball from Ryan K put Bryan M through and he finished with a shot from the outside of the right foot low to the left corner to finish the game  2-5. Blarney had all the play and was rewarded when Adam A. struck from outside the box to make it 3-2 and the pressure was on Mary’s. An hour long game was played under lights on a cold November evening. On paper this was all set to be a closely fought contest. But it was quite the opposite. Ajax dominated the game from the start with some solid defending and class scoring. Inter had some dominating moments but they were out classed on the night. A flurry of goals came from Ajax with Jamie H netting six and Cian O’D scoring four. Best for Ajax were Cian, Jamie and Mark C with good performances from Niall M and Matthew F. David T played best for Inter and a couple of consolation goals came from Peter B who had also picked up a knock that kept him quiet on the night. In the end both teams enjoyed the run out. 2/Nov: Challenge Match: Blarney U10s 2, Riverstown 3. O'Shea Park, All - Weather Pitch

Blarney's U10 played under lights for the first time Friday night. Blarney started off well with some good passing for the first 10 minutes but Riverstown scored after 15 when they broke through the Blarney defence to score from close range. John O’D made a fine save in the 20th minute when he was one - on - one with the Riverstown forward and saved from close range. Riverstown scored again towards the end of the first half with an identical goal to there first with the Blarney defence again been caught napping.
